Awesome Sun Coral
2 Attachment(s)
Here's a pic of my sun corals that I got just about 2 months ago... Actually it was quite the find... I got a small rock of the pink ones about 2" in diameter, and while looking through some live rock rubble I found a single yellow polyp that I've so far been successful at nursing back to health.

WOW. Those are amazing. They are so perfect they don't even look real to me!

Congratz for the find. You are feeding the polyp heads individually? I've read that's the best way to have them thrive. I'm considering getting some for my Pico, but they are difficult to get because everyone loves them.

Nice shots too

I've always wanted some Sun Corals, but being gone from my house every so often I'm afraid they would fare poorly.

Yours looks great!

Thanks for the comments.

Yes I feed each polyp individually some mysis shrimp from a turkey baster about every other day. They typically don't like light, so I kept them in a cave, but then it was a pain to feed them. Now I keep them in a clear soapdish I suctioned to the inside of the tank just a few inches from the surface so that they don't really get much light, and they're much much easier to feed until I get a 2 foot baster... By feeding them like this I've noticed several new polyps growing out the sides and bottom of the larger polyps.

I hope that you find some kell, as they are quite stunning and even seem pretty hardy.

OH, i know it. i hope i get some too.

Yeah, they don't like light at all. They normally are found in caves only which get no light.

this is the same as dendro or dendro is the more expensive variation correct?

ajmckay 01-08-2009 01:16 PM

Sun corals and dendros are similar, they're both non-photosynthetic and have a similar look, however the dendros are larger and I think the tentacles are a little longer looking. I don't know if they're more expensive or not since I don't think I've ever seen them at my LFS... They surely cost more per polyp though because they're larger.
