- - Ancistrus Pleco? (http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/catfish/ancistrus-pleco-20153/)
I was at my LFS the other day and noticed some albino plecos labeled as "Ancistrus Plecos." I asked the manager if Ancistrus was the same as a BN pleco, but he claimed that they weren't BNs. Is he wrong? Can anybody think of another type of albino pleco that could be labeled as Ancistrus?
The ancistrus pleco (also known as the ancistrus sp3) is indeed the bristlenose pleco. This is the smallest of commonly owned plecos, and will not normally grow any larger than three or four inches. When mature, males will display a full set of bristles whereas the females will display little or even no bristles at all.
Thanks. I thought they were BNs, but when the LFS manager told me otherwise I was thrown for a loop. I didn't buy one because I was afraid I would end up with an 18" waste factory.
