PVC Plastic in water?

Hi everyone, I got a quick question about plastics in water. I've decided to add some caves and hiding places into my now cycling tank, so I went to my hardware store and bought some plastics pipes to make tunnels and whatnot. Is PVC plastic safe to put in water? I'm guessing it is, since all our drinking water comes from PVC pipes. What do you think?
