Ok so do any of you purposly try and breed fish?
If so, What have you bred and whats your favorite fish to breed?
Egg layers, Livebearers...Im just curious :-D
I have bred Red Wag Platies. Didn't try to, but having livebearers, you are expected for that to happen. :-)
Also tried Kribensis. They didn't get it right the first 2 or 3 times (IE, ate the eggs), but then the male went suicidal (he jumped). :-?
Do you know of any Egg layers that can live in a 45 Hex that are easy-ish to breed? lol
I want a cool fish I can breed. Ive done Platties but they bore me now lol
I have had them so long and bred them a bunch so I wanna try something else.
Kribensis are an egg-layer, and one of my favorite FW fish. *Very easy* to breed as well.
But they can be very aggresive when protecting their fry and eggs. Is this a community tank?
Im not sure yet. Its not totally set up yet.
(its going on a dresser with a mirror on the back of it and we need to screw in the mirror to the dresser before I can fill up the tank.)
But the stocking scheme is still in the works.
Will they attack Corydoras or otos? and What can I house with them cuz I really want Festivums :-?
If you're trying to breed kribs, I wouldn't house certain types of fish with them, such as festivums. Festivums are somewhat predatory, so they will probably try to eat the krib fry. Also, they're cichlids, so when the parent kribs try to chase them away they may choose to fight back and you'll have problems.
So if you want to try breeding kribs, choose tankmates that won't try too hard to eat the fry but are active and can be chased by the parents. Danios, smaller tetras, rasboras, etc all make good choices. They will attack anything that gets near their fry, including cories and otos, but those fish won't fight back and will just swim away so they'll be ok.
Of course, festivums themselves aren't too difficult to breed, so you could skip the kribs and just try a group of those.
