Choose A Filter
I know its been asked a few times before but couldn't find what i was after.. some will know my small red cherry tank, well i have found a 5'x2'x2' tank that i should be getting.. just a question on what filter i should get if i do get the tank.. at first i will just be putting in say 20-30 cherry shrimp and maybe a couple of small BN catfish.. and a nice piece of driftwood and lots of moss and java fern.. it works out to be roughly 540L to the brim (although when i saw the tank it didn't look like 2' wide).. but i'de rather allow for more.. going to have a 3-5mm rock substrate.. not sure what else to need to know.. thanks for any help..
Please keep in mind i am in Australia. so some things may not be available to me..:-)
Well, what are you planning on keeping in this tank? How much filtration you get really depends on how heavily you're going to stock the tank. In a tank that large with just some shrimp and a few small plecos, you really wouldn't need much in the way of filtration. Just enough to keep the water from getting too stagnant. However, if you were to start stocking it with a lot more fish (which a tank that size is certainly capable of handling) you would want a lot more filtration, like a couple of power filters and a canister or two.
150 gallon or so. You'll need a good sized canister filter or multiple HoBs. I don't have any experience with canisters so I'll leave that for someone else. Two Emperor 400's would be up to handling this set up.
If your doing a planted tank, I would defiantley invest in a good Canister filter. But, the size all depends on how heavy/light you stock it with.
