Big Male Platy / Swordtails A while back I had two femail blue platys and my male swordtail decided it only liked blue fish. Now that their fry have grown into adults I noticed that males are about 25% bigger than the females from that fry. Both the males and females are a lot bigger than the other male and female platies and swordtail in the tank. The males are extremely friendly and non aggresive unlike the other males. However there none aggressive tendencys lead them to be picked on by smaller males (including their father). They are still pretty young and growing, right now they are about the same size or slightly bigger than a fully grown female molly. Has anyone experienced this in cross breeding before? |
I have but i did it with guppies and platies. They turned out very delicate and were very peaceful. I moved them into a separate tank with smaller fish and they did fine. |

In answer to the question, I have to say I have never experienced it, because I have never cross-bred anything. |
I had Platies/Swordtail mix that look like the Platies with a swordtail. |
Well i had platies drop fry when they were with out a male for 3 months and i know that they can keep sperm packets but i think that is right around the limit. So maybe your right, Oops |
