Help choosing a mate 4 my gourami
Hi everyone. I got a question about breeding my gouramis. I would like to try breeding it, but am unsure about the safest mate to choose for it. My tank currently has 2 gouramis in it, one three-spot and one opaline, both female. The opaline is exceptionally larger and more aggressive than the other, as she is probably the dominant female. I would like to buy a male, but don't want to risk any injuries. So should I get a male that is smaller than the opaline, or larger?
At first i thought it should be larger, but I added a large female gourami once, and both of them ended up killing the smallest one. This happened twice, and hence i am in this predicament now, with two instead of the "ideal 3".
Should it be smaller? if so, smaller than which one, the opaline or three-spot?
I don't know about size, but maybe you could rearrange your tank before you add the new one. Then add all the fish back at once. That way none of the fish would have established territories yet. That's a trick that most people who have a sorority of female bettas do when adding a new addition.
that trick can have dangerous repercussions though. I did that once, in fact, with female bettas. I took em all out, added a new betta fish in the tank, put them all back and all hell broke loose. They all started fighting again. I guess since they lost all sense of the old heirarchy, they all started fighting for it again.
I just wanna noe what kind I should get, big or small.
