Problem with my Blue Ram
I'm new to cichlids, but I recently got a new German Blue Ram. It is doing great! But I have noticed something going on with the top fin on him. Here are a couple pics, let me know what you think it may be please:
People in another forum said to get rid of my serpae tetra, which I am in the process of getting rid of them. But would they cause this to happen to his fins? I have never personally noticed them picking on him or anything. ammonia and nitrite both read 0, water is at about 10dGH (I know is a little high for this species but this is similar to the fish store I bought them from which they were doing good in). Any insight would be greatly appreciated
Yup, looks like some nipped fins alright - to be expected from the serpae. Especially if it's all by itself. The ram is no doubt stressed, so what's going on with the fins is not unexpected. Get rid of the serpae and stay up on water changes and it should heal itself.
I went ahead and removed the serpae tetra from the tank and temporarily put them in my 10 gallon tank with my dwarf gourami. I am trying to find out if my local fish store will take them, if not, I do not know what to do with them because I just don't have the space because I am sure that a 10 gallon with a dwarf gourami and 3 serpae tetra is not big enough.
