Yaaaaaay!!! theve finaly hatched!
My mantis ooths finaly hatched!!!:-D:-D:-D the first one hatched last week and th 2nd one hatched yesterday. 3 days ago I was trying to catch one of em and i scared it to another mantis and he got eatin. right now I guess there are between 15 and 30 mantises. I cant catch food cause its like the middle of winter and I dont know what to do. 2 days ago I found 10 mantids on my wall. I found out there is a hole in my tank.
well congratulations on the hatchings :)
shame about the hole in the tank, what do they eat ?
For baby mantids:
Get Drosophila hydei sturtevant
For larger mantids:
Forked Tree Ranch - Fly Larvae Pollination
If this isn't gonna work, set out some really ripe bananas and catch flying ones. The will work until you can get a culture of fruit flies and some bottle flies.
If you need food right now, got to your local pet store and get pinhead crickets as all of the mantids can eat them. They larger crickets work for the adults too. Crickets are a good food source for them.
Meal worms will work in the short term if you can't get anything else but don't feed them for long. I don't know if you can find ones small enough for the baby mantids though. Maybe try confused flour beetles for the short term for the babies.
The links are just so you know what to look for. Do a search for live foods or for the specific names from the sites to try and find them closer to you.
