Name That Loach!
Can anyone name my loach? HE is about 5-6 inches long and kills any other long loaches I put in my tank, he has gotten 3 kuhli loaches and now I just leave him alone.

Looks like a weather loach.

I can't really really see the picture but it looks a bit like a dojo loach.;)

I always thought the Weather Loach and the Dojo Loach were one in the same....

Yup, they are. Unlike most loaches, these guys are territorial and won't appreciate more of their own kind. It's likely it thought the kuhlis were just little dojo loaches. Also, these are a temperate species so they should be kept at lower temperatures than tropical fish.

Weird cause mine has been living in my 33 freshwater tank and he seems to be doing fine. I stupidly went to walmart and saw two minitures of mine in the corner very thin, one on the way home began to float in the bag :| So I am going to try to bring them up to health and size in my ten gallon, then IF I get that 80 gallon in the future, the big loach will go to the big tank and the little guys will go into the 33 gallon.

Me too. But, as fast as things change in the hobby as of late(especially fish names), it's a wonder it's a loach at all. lol

I have never heard of dojos killing any other fish. Are you sure they didn't just die from other causes? Do you have a full body shot?

MsFrosty 12-07-2008 10:22 AM

I will try to get a full body shot in the next little bit, for now he is hiding in the drift wood ornament.

If you click on it you can see it bigger, thats the best I could get If anyone can tell if it is a boy or a girl that would be cool too!
