BGK Healthy or Burned??????

Anyone knowledgeable on telling if a BGK received "burns"
I am concerned that my young BGK was exposed to ammonia/nitrite (not sure how many days) and may have been burned. I have found no visible damage, such as boils or bumps and since she has no scales and she is already black I am not sure what else to look for.. help please..

is it possible to post your exact ammonia, nitrite, nitrate levels?
if your tank is cycled, your ammonia and nitrite should read 0

also, a picture is worth a 1000 words.
the more info the better, what size tank, whats in it and so on and so forth

and WELCOME ;)

Ammonia "burns" aren't like a typical burn. Instead it really just means damage to the cells in the fish's gills. You can tell by the reddening of the gills. This should be visible even on a black ghost knife.

But yes...knowing your water parameters is important. The best thing for the fish is just to make sure that it isn't exposed to ammonia or nitrite and is housed in a well-cycled tank.

Thank you for the responses, sorry I am a bit slow, one thing after another.
Anyways the Black Ghost knife turned out just fine. I had done lots and lots of water changes. While we were out of town, there had been a power failure Thanksgiving week thus the power filter that required priming did not run, well you can imagine the state of the tank, the water changes involved etc. Because of the situation I had not posted water parameters. Anyways i have had fun reading many of the postings and have learn bunches.
