Flying Koi, to bad they didnt land back in the water! What?

Flying Koi, to bad they didnt land back in the water! What?

I have a pond that is about 200+ gal and “had” 6 koi. 2 of which got big this summer, one is about 16” and fat and the other 14” and yes fat. Lol The depth on the pond had me a little worried so I wanted to move them indoors over the winter. I had a left over hard shell pond that is 100 gal and set it up in the basement. I transferred water from the out side pond to the indoor so there wouldn't be a shock factor with water temp or water change. I will let the water temp rise itself and havent added anything to it that wasnt in the pond out side.

With doing this I came home to 2 of my smaller koi on the basement floor...
What could have caused this? Could they have just got spooked?

hmmm,is it possible that a truck rumbled past,
could have spooked them.it could also be perhaps they were swimming around a little too much and flipped out.
how are you turning the water over ?

Koi can and will jump sometimes, especially after being moved. And they really need about 1000 gallons or more to live comfortably. They just don't do well in smaller ponds, and certainly not in aquariums, especially if they are 14-16" long. And it's an old wive's tale that fish will only grow as big as their surroundings will allow them, which some LFS will try to tell you.

sorry for hijacking this thread but I have told MANY and MANY people fish grow and grow even if there surroundings are small. they think i was full of it and dont know anything. I hope one day the people who doubted me read this. I know lots about fish. You would be surprised =) Thanks finsNfur for proving my point!
