New Double T5's, worth it?
Ive got a 150L/40G tank. that is 30" across. and my current lighting system is some aqua one with double T8's in it. flourecent/white lighitng. and to be honest i dont think its working that well. because the top of my plants look really good. and slowly comming down to the bottom looks like they're dying...not to mention the algae take over. so im thinking maybe if i get new better lights. not to replace. but to work alongside my one.

one like that. do you think it would help the plant growth and help fight the war against algae? cheers
Hmm...a 40g tank that's only 30" across? What are the dimensions of the tank? It sounds like it might be pretty tall, in which case stronger lighting would definitely be beneficial. However, increasing your lighting isn't going to combat your algae problem; in fact it's probably going to make it worse. Some people use CO2 or Flourish Excel to battle algae in planted tanks when cutting back the lighting period would be detrimental to plant growth. Also, what plants are you keeping? You could add some fast-growing plants like hornwort or water lettuce to out-compete the algae for nutrients.
I've never heard anything in particular about that lighting fixture, but Hagen generally makes pretty good aquarium products. Just be sure that you're getting it with bulbs in the correct spectrum (6700K is ideal, 10,000K is getting quite high and below 6500K or so is too low).
Hi, thanks for reply. it is much appreciated, i finaly found the right place to post this lol.
but yea ive been usuing flourish excel. and the normal flourish. but i stopped as soon as i saw the algae. ive started dozing the flourish excel everyday now at a higher doze to tackle the algae. im not sure about lights yet as the other guy in other thread is talking about it./ would be nice if you reply there and close this one. thanks. =) oh and yea my tank is pretty tall. i have no idea about dimensions. i will post them tomorrow morning in the other thread.
