How long to Barbs live?
What's thier lifespan? I have some Neon Rosey Barbs that have started to die off. I lost one last week to no apparent reason. I had to take one out of the tank this morning since he was breathing hard and just laying on the bottom of the tank, later he died. None of the other fish in the tank are sick nor are there any marks like the rams got to him. They tend to keep to themselves anyway. The barbs do seem to be loosing some of the color on a few of their scales. I've had these barbs for about 2 years and they were almost full grown when I got them. All of the water parameters are in the same range they have been for the past year.
It is possible that they are dying of old age, given that they were full size when purchased and you've had them for 2 years. Rosey Barbs should live upwards of 5 to 7 years, depending on tank size and care. Factors determining captive lifespan are highly dependent on tank size and diet, with Rosey Barbs probably requiring a 75 gallon aquarium at minimum for long term care.
I sorta forget but i thing i use to have a barb.i think it lived 3 years.
