What are my 2 male honeys doing?
hi just done a water change and noticed afterwards the two male dwarf honeys behind the black tunnel at the back rubbing up against eachother and rolling around in the same way I've seen the male and female barbs doing. What are they up to? surely they can't mistake the other for a female? or is this how they fight? Poor little guys I may have to get another tank just so they can have some female company :(
Also there's a white egg like thing near the top of the tank on a leaf about 1mm in diameter could this be a fish egg, or just yet another baby ram snail?
I don't know anything about those fish, but are you sure one's not a female? lol
hi yeah it's been confirmed on here when I posted pics that they're both male. When I first got them they were both pretty pale and one did look like it had a line going through the middle (so I'll forgive the guy at the fs). but since they've been in the tank they've both gone very yellow, red and black. When they were dong whatever they were doing one of them went really black at the bottom and the other didn't.
I've since seen female gouramis in fs and they are a totally different color and the line is very obvious.
I'd love to get some female gouramis but went for more corys instead and they are well happy as a group so glad I did. I think any more fish would well over stock my tank - it's probably a little over as it is but I very good about water changes and cleaning the bottom and I've got an air stone (which I think helps).
Little white egg like thingy is still on the leaf - wonder what it is? might try to take a pic.
can't answer about the honys,sorry.
interested in the egg though.
does it look like a tiny pearl ?
hi willow, got a picture - it does look like a pearl about 1mm still. My money's on a baby ram snail although I think they're usually under the gravel I'll need to look at which fish lay eggs (I think gouramis do but that's N/A here heh no matter how much the boys try!)
Hope the pic helps a little, be nice if it was an egg what a lovely reason to get another tank asap! but I'm not going to get excited and start looking at those net things you get to protect eggs etc just yet. ;-)
hmmmm this here little eggie,it looks a little bit like a corydora egg.
gosh sorry i can't remember if you even have any, sorry.
weird that there would only be 1 egg. Looks quite big too.
As for ure chuna's...dont worry abt them, they wont hurt eachother. They dont fight the way Trichogaster T's fight and chase. They just shimmy next to each other to see who get's the best spot in the tank (surface spot in a the corner where the floating plants are). Chuna's dont get big...mine are 4cm....so 2 more wont hurt. dont know how big ure tank is tho
Hi thanks for replies.
Yeah I thought it most odd there's just the 1? that's why I'm thinking another snail.
Ive got 6 cory false jullis I think they're called (leapard?) and the two biggest are male and female and are always very happy together swimming and twisting but I've not seen any eggs b4 (just assumed they get eaten quickly the cherry barbs are right greedy and are also constantly at it and bertha always looks full of eggs. I've also got brown snails rams I've been told and they're constantly turning up but the barbs really enjoy a snail treat so it's kept under control. I dont know about shrimp but the pinoccio (big nose shimp) on my pic. are either getting smaller or reproducing although I'm not sure cos I never see more than the 4 I originally got so could be that either the male or female stay small and the other two have got huge in comparison.
At times it's like my tank is a love shack to be honest I'm surprised I'm not over run with little fishies! I can only assume they eat well! (judging by the poop it wouldn't surprise me - reminds me of the line in The Incredibles: I just cleaned up the place can you not keep it clean for ...'
Well I'm rambling so I'll stop now
I would guess that egg is a cory egg.
It sounds like your gouramis are sparring. I wouldn't worry about it, as it sounds like no real damage is being done.
hmmmm yeah, sounds like a cory egg,
if you're feeling adventerous(sp)you could get a little keep net
and put the gee in there and see if it hatches, don't hold out
any hope if it hatches in the main tank.
