need help identifying anemone
1 Attachment(s)
i have looked at lots of photos online but can't find an accurate identification for this anemone. if anyone knows what he is would you please enlighten me? ordinarily i wouldn't care what he is but people keep asking me and i hate looking dumb when i say "i don't know". sorry if the picture sucks... i can take a better one if need be.

well first off shame for not RESEARCHING before buying.

how do you know this species can survive in your tank without knowing what it is?
if you dont mind me asking how long has your tank been set up?

if i were to guess i would say rock or flower anemone

it also appears you have a algae infestation in your tank.

Looks like a Flower Anemone to me as well.

sorry... i forgot to mention that i DIDN'T buy it. it came with all the live rock i purchased off of a guy who had had it for 2 years. i've had it for 2 months.

(and the algae came with it too)

that explains it.

Sorry to say, but that's Aptaias or Glass anemone
they are known to kill your tank and sting your corals and other anemones. i've even heard of them eating fish (but what anemone can't right?)
here's one when it gets bigger.(these were in my tank)
they spread fast so don't try to get rid of it unless you are going to take it seriously. Pepperment shrimp are the preferred way of ridding yourself of them and that's what i used.

that bubble algae can be bad thing too if you don't know how to take proper care of it.

That is what I thought in the first place untill I read 'purchased.'

If you touch it (wear gloves), does it shrink into the rock, or does it feel sticky?

Kellsindell 10-28-2008 07:35 PM

me or soco?
