After losing most of the fish in my 30g to disease recently, I'm feeling a little jumpy.
I've noticed a *few* small whitish spots on the tails of some platys (platies?) and started medicating for ich again, but they don't seem to be fading, and I can tell some of my fish don't like the medicine. Could it be anything else?
If they look a little fuzzy it could be a fungus.
It takes a few days for the medication to start working. Medication doesn't effect the ich parasite in it's white spot form, you have to wait for the cyst to fall off and become free swimming. So you won't immediately see the spots disappearing, but if you haven't seen any new ones, that's good. Raising your temperature will speed the life cycle considerably.
Also, make sure you have removed carbon from your filter or the medication will be absorbed and will not work. Ich, when caught early, is a very treatable disease. If you're only just seeing a few spots you shouldn't have any trouble kicking the infestation.
