CO2 injection and algae

Help me understand why CO2 works so well at controling algae. I recently started injecting and have noticed inprovements in algae control. Doesnt algae need CO2 also? does it have to do with CO2 being a limiting factor for the plants?

co2 benefits the plants. good lighting and co2(depending on your plants needs) allows the plants to out compete the algae for nutrients in the water column. in other words, the plants can grow faster and healthier. algae doesn't need co2 as plants do. plants are compose of mostly carbon which is why they benefit.
