How to switch from Copper to Malachite Green

Hello,

I have a sick fish currently suffering from both fin rot and ick. I've been treating with an antibiotic for the fin rot and copper (CopperSafe to be specific) for the ick. I'm thinking about switching from copper to malachite green. Given that Coppersafe stays active for 30 days, do I need to do a complete water change before adding the malachite green, and can these two treatments co-exist for a time?

Thanks

Putting active carbon in your filter will remove the meds. Although I've heard that copper can be nearly impossible to ever strip completely from your tank (trace amounts wouldn't matter). I'm not to sure if the two meds will have any problems co existing. But if you run carbon in your filter for like 24 hours then it would be safe to remove the carbon and treatment with the malachite green.

I wouldn't switch if the copper is being tolerated by your fish, changing medications before a full regimen can cause the development of medication resistant strains. Also, what sort of fish is this? Certain fish such a tetras do not tolerate malachite green well.
