dwarf neon rainbow odd behavior
So i set up a new 30 gallon tank with 10 dwarf neon rainbows, and an angelfish (scalare)from an earlier tank. Things were fine the first few days, but i've recently noticed the rainbows hiding on the upper side of the tank all the time; they're not gasping for air or anything, but it seems they just hang there all the time. The odd thing is that whenever i'm in the room the rainbows behave normally -- swimming and poking around every nook and cranny.
i've also done water changes and cleaned up the filter.
The angelfish is pretty tame and ignores the group most of the time, and i have never seen it behave aggressively. so i don't think it's a territorial issue.
I have 5 dwarf rainbows - 3 M & 2 F in my 20 gal with 2 M & 2 F threadfin rainbows.
Sometimes all of them will hang out near the top in the back of the tank.
It's like they are hiding - but there are only 3 oto's with them & the dwarfs are the big guys in the tank!
As long as they act "normally" most of the time and eat I think it's ok.
How new?
In my experience they do that in small tanks. That behavior stopped once I put them in a 4 foot tank. I had mine in a 45 gallon and didn't realize how little room there was for them to swim - once they get bigger you ought to look into upgrading. 10 in a 30 is going to be quite cramped, and the fish will not be as enjoyable to watch. IMO&E.
