Pregnant Platy?
I have 2 platies (male and female) and the female looks to be pregnant... she's fat and has a spot... any help??

thy usually have fry every month,so get ready lol.
if you want the fry to survive have plenty of
places for them to hide so the parents don't eat them.
you can put them in a breeding net until they are big enough
to get away from the adults,or get rid of them.
the female will get fatter and the black gravid spot will grow too,
you may find she hides away nearer the time of giving birth.

What now?
I just bought a breeding tank, but I don't know when I should put her (her name is Minnie) in! But I don't want to risk Minnie's babies because there are 6 other fish of different breeds in the tank...

difficult to say, without seeing a very clear picture.
she will look realllllllllllllly big,and the gravid spot will be big too.
how "fat" does minni look at the moment.?

She's pretty fat... and her spot is pretty big. She's making me REALLY worried...

aww don't panic please.:)
you can put her into the breeder net now if thay will ease your mind,
perhaps put a little plant in there if you have some spare
just to give her a little privacy. :)

She will have a very square looking abdomen when viewed from the side. The usual shape of a platy tapers slightly from a swelling just behind her head to a rounded taper that ends at the anal fin. When she is near delivering, the rear of the swelling will be just as deep from top to bottom as the front part. It is said to be squared off. When viewed from above, a not too far along female will have sides that come straight back but as she gets close to delivering she will get visibly wider before narrowing back down towards the back of the dorsal fin. These shapes will become quite pronounced in the last few days before she gives birth. Activity will also help you identify when she is ready. She will hide more and not interact as much as usual with the other fish. Basically she will want to be left alone to herself and may hide in a corner of the tank or among plants.
