how long do wood tannins leech?

I boiled and added some driftwood to my cycling puffer tank - this morning the water is brown I'm surprised because it's beach-found wood that I assumed had been in the ocean a long time. If I let it soak for a while and then do 90% water change, will it just keep leaching? Will it ever stop??

when I added wood It took 3 month for the water to clear.
but I also added two large chunks.

Most say anywhere from afew weeks to as long as several month.

hope this helps :-D;-)

if tannins are not out, you could be in danger. your ph can drop alot lower than you expected. you probably should have let is sit for awhile in a large container to be sure. add salt to aid in the tannins escaping faster. reboil it if you have to and repeat as nessessary. check your ph level.

Thanks!

I had it in a cycling tank and I'm worried I seriously damaged the cycle. I have it all in a tub right now ... seems to be running its course pretty quickly...
