Hello im new!
I totally forgot to check for a welcome thread, so about 4 days late here I am!
Im 19, bought a 55 from my brother who was suckered into buying it from a friend who bought it cheap to house river fish. I dont know what happened with him, but my brother had it for 3 months before I told him to use it or sell it to me, 200$ later I got a 55 gallon with heater, sparse decor, 55lbs of fine white sand (dont want, sitting in a bucket in the garage) a handsome stand, and a bottle of lime remover.
Decided that I wanted to breed guppies (but house them in a community tank) and off I went, a full paycheck later and I had the tank set up with some comet goldfish and a Betta to cycle, got black gravel for bottom and bought some live plants.
After buying 2 ghost glass cats I realized that the lfs around here are more interested in selling their stock than helping you set up computable tanks with happy fish.
And now 2 months after buying the tank and setting it up I know quite a bit about freshwater tanks, all thanks to obsessive research about each fish candidate that I considered adding.
Now my tank has:
14 blue neons
9 orange neons
6 golden asian clams
4 fancy guppies
2 ghost glass cats
2 bamboo shrimp
1 apple snail
some pond snails
And everyones happy. Adding a male/female gourami when my post in the compatibility section is resolved.
As far as I go, Im a computer guy with fish, not a fish guy with a computer. Built this gaming rig myself from scratch about 8 months ago. I am learning Japanese actively and have a passion for cooking (more a passion for extremely tasty food and the spending habits of scrooge).
Basically everything I know is thanks to my computer skills, Im here for advice on my tank, but if you need computer help toss me a PM, I have family in parts of the country that run buisness and am their #1 source for technical advice, so im used to questions from Mac vs. PC to how do I set up a RAID-5 Hard drive configuration and optimize it to load speeds.
Hi! Nice to meet you!
What are those 'orange neons'? Could you post a pic?
