what is this annoying plant floating in my tank?
I've been spotting a plant that clings on to my floaters as well as other plants in the tank.. It's thread like with tiny leaves on it. I'm assuming it's a hitchhiker. I don't know how to eliminate it. Every time I see it, I take it out.. But within a couple days I spot more! Is it an algae? It doesn't seem to attach itself to anything.
Can you get a pic of it??
Pictures will definitely help for identifying what it is.
I'm going to venture a guess that your tank has contracted the green plague, otherwise known as Duckweed.
Click the shaded name to see if that's what you are finding in your tank.
If the answer is 'yes' then unfortunately there is NO WAY to get rid of it short of removing all your floating plants. Most floating plants can be grown in the substrate (like Water Sprite, Wisteria, Brazilian Pennywort, etc). So you could grow them 'planted' for awhile as Duckweed can not survive underwater.
I'll try to get a pic. Its not duckweed, I have got rid of the duckweed that was in that tank (a miracle) and I had in the tank with my newts.
Its almost like a thread algae.. But its not that either, I have had that before. It might be something native to SC.. I have seen it somewhere before. My mom has it in her tank, but we got some of our plants from the same source so that would be why.
I have a feeling this is worse than duckweed.. I've seen it at all levels of the tank. :(

I keep finding something that sounds like your description tangled up in things, no idea what it is, but I can't seem to get rid of it either - and it drives me batty, too. . . I assumed it was some kind of moss, but I have no clue.
I'll try to get a pic. . . it may not be the same thing, but worth a shot!
Maybe hair algae?
Ok ok, finally home so I can post a picture. I was hoping it was common enough a picture wouldn't be needed, but I hadn't found anything in my searches online so I probably should've known. Love the rolly eyed face, Kuddos.. hehe. Stupid me. :)
Hopefully the pic shows up.. if not, let me know and I'll try to upload it somewhere else. I never know where to upload pics for forums.
This is on a paper towel by the way. The total plant "sample" is like 2.5" accross.
I'm pretty sure that's the same weird thing as mine! But I still have no idea what it is!
*waits with bated breath for the answer*
Yeah... I'm going to be replanting my tank in the next week with some swords, I will have to try to get rid of these if I can. I somehow doubt it though. I'm going to leave some of my cabomba floating until I can get either my pennywort or my wisteria to grow a decent amount of cover for the top of the tank.
This crap is probably what's killing my wisteria though. I always find it on the wisteria.. and I've kept wisteria floating before. Seemed like it was *the* easiest plant ever.. now it's dying. I even kept wisteria before I ever added anything like Flourish Comp. It lived off stock lighting and fish poop.
