Okay I work in the live fish at Walmart and this sick Betta came in about a week ago. He acted all butt heavy. I fed him a pea and over night he passed waste. He has been perking up but not all the way to par yet. I couldn't just leave him there so I brought him home to see if I could nurse him back to health. I think this Betta has fin rot. He is a red Betta and there is black on the edge of his caudal fin. Is this fin rot? If so will water changes fix this or will I have to medicate?
Here are some pictures. If you look closely you can see the black on his fin. I couldn't get a good picture. His caudal fin is still long and pretty it just looks slightly ragged and black on the end.
To me he looks like a pretty healthy and very nicely coloured betta. I wouldn't be to worried unless you noticed his fins getting short, and then you should think about medicating. But for right now all you have to do is keep his water really clean.
But I did just wake up so maybe I can see straight yet. Hah, I was going to apply to walmart to working in the fishy section so I could take better care of them, but I just found out walmart supports whaling? :?
okay I think he has swim bladder too. He lays on his side and I have to keep the water level down super low so he can reach the top for air. I feed him a pea yesterday and he eliminated last night, but is still in his sideways condition. What if anything can I do for him? He seems to want to be active. when he sees my other Betta in the tank next to him he flares and swims around. So I don't know what to do or if there is anything I can do besides the water changes.
This was him in the cup when I brought him home.
I now have him in a 1 gal but with a low water level.
Try fasting him for a few days then feed mushed peas and see if that helps?
If he doesn't improve with fasting, treat with anti bacterial meds.
okay will do :) thanks
