Glass vs. Acrylic I am looking to get a large (200+ gal) tank (African Cichlid) for the basement (if my wife lets me of course). Does anyone know the pros and cons of a large glass tank vs. a large acrylic tank? Thanks in advance. Mike |
Go with glass if your going to keep cichlids. http://www.fishforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=144 Even though thats says salt its the same. |
Yes, glass not only looks great but it is also very durable, and doesn't scratch like plastic can. The only thing is if you're going to be playing pool in your basement, be careful not to hit the balls off the table and into the side of your aquarium as the fishies won't like flopping around on the floor at all. My dad did that all the time when he was a kid. lol |
What's the use of acrylic when you are dealing with rocks as part of their hiding place? African cichlids like rocky areas and with acrylic, the tank won't last long. Go with the glass. It's standard for large cichlid tanks. |
