HELP. Cleaning accident!
I know I haven't been on here in forever, but I've got a disaster on hand.
I was cleaning my 15 gallon which has 3 fantail pearlscale goldfish (before I get any back-talk about this, I do water changes each week and monitor the water stats; there's never any ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate and they have plenty of swimming room)
and one of them got a little curious and was sucked head-first into the tubing. He quickly removed his head and swam off. I noticed one of his eyes are bleeding a little but not much; it's more bruised. The eye is severely swollen at this point. He's obviously distressed; he's wobbling around but not as if he's about to keel over.
Any advice on what to do is appreciated! I haven't finished changing the water either; should I finish this up?
Yes, I would finish changing the water, but try to make as little disturbance as possible. Stress coat seems to help with injuries, so if you have some on hand I would use that. Other than that just keep the water really clean to prevent infection (which it seems you are doing anyway) and watch him closely.
So far, I've finished the water change. The "bruising" or bleeding has settled down drastically, but his eye is still really swollen. I added some stress coat and a little bit of aquarium salt. (Not too much cuz goldies hate it. :P )
Why add aquarium salt if you know your fish hate it?
I do weekly water changes on my not over stocked tank anyways. You should really think about upgrading because its not just about the poopy water they live in but they will grow and the tiny tank you have them in will stunt their growth and make the unhappy and sick.
