Should I try to lower my ph?
My ph sits at 7.8. It's stable and never changes. I have lots of driftwood & plants in the tank. I use root tabs and Flourish Excel.

All occupants are vibrant & healthy.
The tank 100 gal and houses 7 Botia almorhae, 9 Puntius denisoniis & 1 pictus.

I'm thinking of possibly adding a bolivian ram(s?) and maybe a festivum(s?). I know that 7.8 is a little high for these cichlids.
Then there's always that old saying, "Leave well enough alone".

Should I forget about adding cichlids, consider something other than these type of cichilds, or consider natural ways to lower my ph?

Any suggestion(s) will be VERY much appreciated.
Thanks! kym

I wouldn't worry about it. My Ph is about 7.6 and I have had severums, angels, keyholes, etc with no problems. A lot of fish are tank raised and are used to a higher Ph. If you can, compare your LFS's Ph to yours. I usually will take a sample from the bag before I start to acclimate the new fish and test the Ph, Kh and Gh. If there's a big difference you'll just need to take longer to acclimate the fish. Also, ask your lfs if the fish you're interested in are wild or tank raised.

LEAVE IT!!!!! I also tried to lower my pH for my betta. Don't do it, you can't win against nature. I'd say if your tank is healthy, then messing with it will just compromise the stability of your tank. I don't know about the fish that you are thinking of adding, but I'm sure someone else can help you there. Sounds like you've got a nice tank  !
