Feeding Golden Nugget Pleco
I've had a Golden Nugget Pleco for about 2 months now; however I never see him eat. At night he comes out and stays on the aquarium glass. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to feed him and how I can ensure he's getting something to eat? Thanks
This is a rather common problem with this fish, as they are active mostly at night. The answer is as simple as you would have guessed. You need to feed them sinking waffers and tablets that they can locate and feed on at nite.
I would putting your aquarium on a light cycle, by using a timer to turn the lights on and off. You could set the aquarium light cycle about 2 hours off of what is natural, with the light turning off a couple of hours before the sun would normally go down. This consistent light cycle should encourage your fish to being looking for food, "waking up" so to speak, shortly after the light goes out. You should have plenty of time to feed a sinking waffer and remove it from the aquarium a couple hours later, prior to going to bed for the night.
If you enjoy watching the aquarium in the late evening hours, i suggest purchasing a blue light to leave on all night, which simulates moon light. A very small night-light with a blue bulb works well.

Thank you for this. We have a T5 light and we're looking into purchasing some "Luniar" bulbs so we can view in the evening. The Golden Nugget is just gorgeous; however we don't get to see him much and want to make sure he's getting the food he requires.
