need help with testing please

hi guys i set up a 10 gallon tank last friday(29/8) to do a fishless cycle filled it with tap water and let it sit for a day with heater on at 25 and my power internal filter running then added king british safe guard to take away the chlorine let it sit again for another day then i added a capful of cycle and then started doing tests everyday from sunday sunday:amonnia 0.0, ph 7.5 monday:ammonia 1.5, nitrites 0.3 tuesday:ammonia 3.0, nitrites 0.8 today:ammonia 1.5, nitrites 0.8, ph 7.5, nitrates 12.5 Surely i cant have nitrate readings already. the test kit i am using is the tetra liquid form. i have followed all instructions and done them correctly also i have been using food flakes to get the process going. i am unsure of what to do next and would kindly use some advices thanks

do you have nitrates in your tap?

ive used tetras test kits and been happy with them. so i doubt its anything wrong with your test kit. id say just keep it up and see what happens. ive heard of smaller tanks doing fishless cycles pretty quick but not quite that quick. did you seed the tank at all? like add gravel for filter media from an established tank?

*shrug* Let some of your plain old tap water sit out for 24 hours and then test it.
