which setup?

I'm new to the board and to having fish. I'm looking at getting a small tank that's not a lot of money to get set up. Since this is mostly just for my kids to look at till we have the room for a nice 55+gal tank. I found two kits and petsmart told me that the marineland was better, though after reading reviews I'm not sure.

so I'm looking at the
Eclipse system 12gal or the Top Fin 10gal tropical

the choice is really yours:

Do you want a glass aquarium?
Do you want to put fake plants in it?
What type of fish?

The eclipse does not have heater, you will need one.
The top fin does not have a good lighting system, bulbs can be changed from incandescent to compact florescent.

I only use glass aquariums, easer to keep glass clean in my opinion.

So saying that I would have to recommend the top fin.

You'd end up spending more money on those kits than what you would to put your own tank together. Plus if you do your own tank setup you can get higher quality stuff than what you'd get with either.

I want to do plastic plants for sure(at lest for the time being) as for as what fish, I'm still up in the air. It is suppose to be a mixed little community mostly just tetras and a bottom feeder, but I saw some dwarf puffers and love them so it may be 2 of them and an otto.

Will the filter and everything be good enough for those?
