ive been watching the olympics as much as i can but i am getting fed up with the judging sports like gymnastics cause china is definitely getting favored there i mean how can you fall on your knees on the vault and still win a medal

beweeb 08-21-2008 04:14 PM

I was never really a big fan of the Summer Olympics. The Winter Games are where it's at for me.

its mostly the diving that i watch.

I'm a fan of both summer and winter Olympics. I've been watching most everything. But being a horse lover I wish they'd show more equestrian events.

i was watching last night and they said the Olympic committee and the gymnastics committee are looking into the ages of the chinese gymnasts which will probably mean they will find out that they are underage which means china looses alot of gold medals and american gains some

Why is there an age limit? If a young girl does better than someone with more experience, shouldn't that warrant her the rights to the title of best gymnast in the world?

I like all the events and watch whatever is on, the thing I hate is the hours of commercials!

My favs are Gymnastics, running, field events, swimming and volleyball. I don;t care to watch field hockey but I don't like Hockey period. I found I am so enthrauled by Curling that the winter games are a big thing for me now and I love the bobsledding and luge.

That is what I could find on the age restriction.

As for good reasons why I can think of a few:
Forcing younger girls to dedicate their lives, basically in slavery to compete and win, any country, not just China.
If they don't win they may be shamed and shunned by the country, any country they compete for, not just China.
The human body is shown to suffer adverse effects of training at such a young age at those levels and have been shown to have long term adverse effects on both growth and proper health.
It is the rules!

I think the age limit should be 16 and should stay there just to make sure that athletes at least have the chance to have a voice in competing and also so they are not harmed in the long term from putting their bodies through such strain and torture at such a young age.

Break the rules, lose the medals. Any country forging documents, if it happened, should be severly punished for doing so just to try and win the medals. The athletes also knew the rules so regardless of their talent, if underaged, they should lose the medal.

If we bend the rules now doping will be next; "I didn't know I was being given steroids so I should keep my medal".

If they want younger athletes then they need to get the IOC to change the rules, until then, break them and pay the price.

There was a schedule up on one website or the other but I don't have cable so I didn't worry about it...I wonder if you can watch it online somewhere?
