Pregnant Japanese Algae Eating Shrimp!
Well, one of my shrimp was pregnant before in which I found out when I was on break from college and when I came back, I didn't see any baby shrimp at all even though the mom doesn't have the yellow-green eggs anymore! So, now it have eggs in its belly, so what can I do to make sure that its babies will be safe and when do I know it would be laying its eggs?

P.S. I went to Petsmart and I don't know why, but they aren't selling the shrimps anymore!

From what I've read, the larvae of this shrimp get swept out to brackish water. They need this brackish water in order to live, so apparently you can't breed them successfully in fresh water. If you set up a second brackish tank, you can transfer the larvae there and raise them.

How much aquarium salt do I use when it comes to per gallon?

What type of shrimp is this? Amano? Because reproduction varies greatly depending on the shrimp.

To make the water brackish you should use a marine salt mix. I'm not sure the adults will survive in the brackish, so you probably need to just move the larvae. You'll also need microscopic food for the fry to survive on.

Where can I get microscopic food? In addition, how long can a shrimp live out of water and how do they get oxygen from the water (do they have gills?)?

Probably the best microscopic food for these guys would be infusoria, which you can easily make yourself. Here's some directions for that:

Shrimp don't survive very long out of water. I'm not sure on the exact time frame, but I've had ghost shrimp jump and get stuck to the glass and die. I wouldn't leave them out of water any longer than a fish. Also, yes, shrimp have gills like fish, and that is how they breath.

Why does my shrimps eat pellets in which one of the ingredients is fish meal? Are shrimps cannibalistic?

For the same reason my parrot eats eggs?? J/K

I believe shrimp are scavengers, as are crabs & lobsters, so I'm sure they could make a meal of just anything they happen across....

Yeah shrimp will eat anything.

Its VERY hard to raise the shrimps larva, so don't get too excited. Google it, its your best bet. I've found sites where people have tried like 13 different times before they finally found the right amount of salt to add to the water.

One time my male amano shrimp fell out of the tank while I was doing a water change, he was out for like... Maybe 15 seconds? And I quickly grabbed a net and got him back in the water, and he died the next week. They are really sensitive so be careful, I wouldn't take them out of the water if you don't have too.

What is ppt? My salt mix bot didn't come with a meter! So, I don't know what is the ppt in the water right now and the shrimp still have some of her eggs! The other larvae probably die in the main tank! : (
