My killies spawned!
So, the random two golden wonder killifish I picked up at the LFS a while back are in fact a pair. Tonight, while I was looking at my tank really closely, I saw not only about four eggs attached to some floating hornwort and water lettuce roots, but also a fry hiding in there as well!
I'm not going to do anything special to raise the fry as I'm not really looking to breed the fish, but I just thought I'd share.
Here are the specs:
29g community tank with the two killies, three swordtails, one female kribensis, and 5 newly added kuhli loaches.
The tank has extensive rockwork along the back half with the aforementioned floating plants. The rocks are covered in java moss, but the fish chose to use the floating plants instead.
The fish are fed a diet of flake, tropical crumbles, frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp, live blackworms and live guppy and swordtail fry. They also get random bugs I find around the house.
The tank is kept at 78 degrees. Zero ammonia and nitrite, nitrates peak at about 20 ppm before water changes.
nice and congrats! :D
although the eggs are self explainitory sure its not a swordtail fry?
I'm 99% sure it's a killifish. He's doing that stationary surface hugging thing that the adult killies do, plus he's got the general body shape and huge dopey looking grin that goes from one eye to the other. Plus, it looks a little smaller than even my guppy fry.
sounds sweet to me, i love baby fishies!
