Putting sand in a tank? Well, Could I put any kind of sand in a water tank |
I wouldn't use just *any* kind of sand. Unless you like the look of black sand and don't mind spending all of the extra money on it, play sand works well. You have to rinse it out a ton before you put it in your tank or your water will be milky. |

I don't suppose so, then again I'm not sure if they *do* swallow it. I have sand in some of my tanks, and my fish will spit out the sand they accidentally eat when they get some food. Other fish sift the sand out through their gill slits. Plenty of people use sand in their tanks, and I've never heard of it hurting a fish before. |
but i mean play sand hurting fish |
I use play sand, as do many others on this forum. I would avoid using paver sand or anything like that though. |

i was just wondering thsnks |
Play sand's fine for fish. Mine take up mouth fulls of it with their food, eat the food and spit the sand out through their gills, it's cute! |
Is this a new tank you're thinking of putting sand it, or is it an already established tank that you're going to take the old substrate out of first? |
