i have what i believe to be a 46gal bowfront.
i purchased 2 powerheads (koralia 600gph)
they should be arriving any day now
anyways my question is - WHERES THE BEST PLACE TO PUT THEM?
2 at the top on the side?
1 at top 1 at bottom on the side?
2 at top on either sides?
1 at top on one side, 1 at bottom on other side?
2 at top on back wall?
2 at bottom on back wall?
1 at top, 1 at bottom on back wall?
1 at top back wall one at top side wall?
1 at top back wall one at bottom side wall? THERES A MILLION POSSIBILITIES!!!
and should they be directly aim on my rocks or the water circulation in the tank will be enough?
This will probably be your best option, having them point somewhat towards each other so that their flows collide. This will give a bit of a wave like motion to the flow throughout the tank.
Ultimately, you will want to have the powerheads placed, and directed in a manner that will produce the desired flow throughout the tank.
Glad to help. Let us know how you make out. And let me know how you like those Koralia 2's. I was looking at the same things (2's or possibly 3's) to replace the AquaClear 50's I currently have.
ok im pissed i didnt spend the extra $5 each on the koralia's to get pump #3s. this would have given me 250 more gallons per hour each. i have a 46gallon bow front and i guess the #2s are sufficient( the waters moving, just not very fast ), just wish i bought the next pump size up.
I have a 46 gallon bow and I bought the Koralia 3. I used just one in my tank, and along with the filter output I get great movement. I haved it placed about 3/4 of the way to the left, and about 2/3 of the way up the tank. I have it pointed at the opposite corner, and there isn't a dead spot in the tank! I love this powerhead.
Looking good! What are you planning on using for substrate? I use live sand and had to be careful not to point the powerhead at it, because I kept getting a bald spot in the sand...
i have 2 bags of live sand, 1x 40lb bag and 1x 20lb bag of ocean direct caribean live sand = total of 60lbs live sand
it came in the mail yesterday and im probally going to get it into the tank today, i just want to go to home depot and get a piece of eggcrate tile to put down first ( lowes didnt have any ) and maybe a few pounds of live rock today to..
most def. a reef but its going to just have live rock for a while..that stuffs expensive  so i guess im going to add like 10-20 pounds a week until i have about 60 and maybe even put in 10-15lbs base rock
after it all "cures" im thinking 2 black ocellaris or probly 1 black, 1 orange (clownfish) and prob. a goby
im in no rush, i still have to make a sump - but i have a 40? or 45 gallon regular tank for that
