Best Placement for CO2 Injection
 

I recently implemented a DIY co2 system in my 50 gallon tank. I currently have the co2 injecting just below the filter intake, so the bubbles get brought through the filter. Is there a better place to put this (anywhere other than below the filter) or does it even matter?

put the tube under something that will catch the bubbles. like a cup or something. I put my tube under a seashell covered in java moss. It helps the dispesion of the co2 into the water a little better.

What kind of filter do you have? If you have a canister filter, putting it into your intake tube is best. Not sure how effective it is with power filters.

I have a bio-wheel power filter.

So even if the bubbles are going directly into the intake for the filter the dispersion will still be less than if there was something else catching the bubbles?

Oxegen is heavier then co2 so once the co2 hits the air outside the tank it floats off. Also bubblers will deplete the co2 in the tank. I run my air pump at night so the co2 injection and the co2 given of by the plants doesn't overwelm my shrimp (they get suicidal)and so the fish get plenty of air.

The problem with the DIY systems is they're not pressurized, so you can't just use a ceramic diffuser or something like that (airstones DON'T work, they're way too porous). I'd recommend looking into getting a track diffuser or something like that for the most efficient diffusion.
