Alrighty, I know how to sex swordtails... But does anyone know how old they have to be before you can tell if it is a male? Or maybe how big they are? Because I can't really remember just how old my swordtail is... It was cold thats all I really remember. But its probably about an inch big... Big enough that I was sure I would know if it was male or female. But lately it looks like its developing a sword on his tail? Theres nothing sticking out from the tail. theres just slightly different colourations on his tail now.
You can tell at a pretty younge age. When they are 1'' in length, it is easy.
Occording to one of my books; sometimes the maturation process is delayed in swordtails. How big are they now? The book does not suggest at what age the gonopodia and tails grow at, unfortunatly. I would give it a little more time. I hope I am helpful.
He is pretty big now. And I'm 100% sure he is in fact a male. His sword on his tail is getting pretty big. Thank you!!!
