wierd black spot algae?
my fish tank has been growing this brown algae on the glass walls and for a while my chinese algae eater kept them in check but then the algae eater died and i couldn't get a new one for a while and the algae covered all my walls. Then they started growing these black spots and the new otos i got for the tank cant seem to eat it. Does anyone know what the balck spots are and if they can harm my fish?

Just sounds like typical algae growth to me. The black develops on top of the green. If you are having a hard time getting the algae off, using a razor blade helps and easily removes algae from glass.

will my otos be able to eventually eat it off or will i need to get it off myself?

I believe ottos will only eat certain algaes, like the softer ones. That hard spot algae you'll need to scrape off yourself.
