weird condition...PLZ HELP
So I've had my betta, vash, for abt 2 years now and I love him sooo much. When I first got him he had swim bladder twice. So I fasted him for like 2-3 days and it cleared. I know it was swim bladder cuz he had extreme difficulty swimming far under the water, he looked bloated, and would chill at the top... often on his side due to his bloating.
Well he hasn't had it in over a year... but like 3 weeks ago he showed symptoms of it. trouble swimming to the bottom and chilling at the top. But he doesnt seem bloated or stay on his side at all. Is there anything else that could cause this similar behavior... like possibly... i hate to say this... a growth? I see no changes in his scales or shape at all...
I tried fasting him for 2-3 days but then since nothing changed I fed him because I was afraid he'd starve. I've tried that maybe 3-4 times in the past 3 weeks.
I was told to feed him the innerds of a pea... but bettas are meat eaters for the most part so i'm afraid this might hurt his digestive track...
I don't know tons about Bettas, but there was a long post on here a while back re: feeding peas to Bettas. They will hurt their digestive tracks and can cause serious damage. BettaBaby is our leading expert on this forum re: Bettas (and other fish) and she documented the damage in her work. I believe she suggested feeding Daphnia to help unblock the digestive track.
There is a sticky re: care in the Betta section of this forum and it's supposed to be updated with some new information that BettaBaby added about a month ago. I'll check to see if that was done. If not, I'll post the link to the updates BettaBaby suggested re: Betta care. I think you'll find it very helpful. :D
Here's the link to the thread containing BettaBaby's updates on Betta Care.
Hope this helps! :D
He's probably gotten far enough up there in age where he's just having more trouble doing stuff. 2 years that you have had him, plus who knows how old he was to begin with (unless you bred him or bought him off aquabid.com). I'd say just keep an eye on him.
