- - crossbreeding plecos? (http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/catfish/crossbreeding-plecos-168018/)
Sometimes at my lfs I see these weird pleco breeds like long fin bushynose chocolate sailing plecostomus and I was wondering how to cross breed plecos to get something crazy like that (rhino x bushynose x sailfin x rubber lip maybe??)
Thanks in advance
If my knowledge of breeding is correct,(which is totally possible that its not) what happens is that a trait/deformity will happen when breeding, such as extra long fins, then you breed it back to the parent to strengthen the trait. You then keep breeding with siblings/children who also exhibit the gene until it breeds true and then you have a new long fin pleco color.
It isnt a result of cross breeding species (Which you cant do with the plecos listed, the cant cross breed) its from selectively breeding a attribute until you get plecos that exhibit it truely
