Wildest Use of an Eclipse System

I've ever seen.

Using it as a computer case for a mineral oil submerged rig.

is that like a cooling system for a computer?

Mustang Boy 08-02-2008 08:17 AM

it is the tower for the computer and it is being cooled by mineral oil

It's more of a heat sink than a cooling system actually. The mineral oil just gives the computer's parts a HUGE mass to have to heat up, and it looks pretty freaking awesome.

All made possible by the fact that mineral oil is non-conductive.

I actually read about that in a customer review for an Eclipse tank on Petsmart's website, I think. It would be cool to have a layered system with the tank with mineral oil inside of a larger tank with water and fish. Heck, I bet the computer in the mineral oil could even be used to heat the outer tank.

yea but with that idea the computer tank would have to be perfectly sealed so that none of the mineral oil leaked out and got replaced with water cause that would be a disaster

girlofgod 08-03-2008 08:11 PM

wait, thats a computer??? :?:

Mustang Boy 08-04-2008 10:54 AM

yep its a fully functional Tower for a PC

From what they were saying about temperature swings this would make a very lousy heater for a larger tank. It'd get too hot and probably kill your fish.

Mustang Boy 08-04-2008 05:15 PM

i think if you had a cooler and a heater in the tank set at the same temps it might work inside of a fish tank as long as you made sure it couldnt leak and of the mineral oil out into the tank that it was being put in
