Lighting question, # of bulbs, k rating...
i just set up a new 33 gallon tank and have a single florescent fixture. I asked the local wal-pet and they suggested a power-glo(24" 20W 18,000K, T-8) but after reading a few posts I am really confused.?? My tank is 24" deep, PLEASE HELP!
im pretty new to plants myself but general rule for low light plants is 2-3 watts a gallon, med. and high light 4-6 watts per gallon, and kelvin range 6,500 ( im sure you can do others ) atleast this is my understanding.. if im wrong someone please correct me
K rating is too high. You should try to keep that rating around 6700K-8800K. Actually closer to the 6700K, 7500K or so. Lumens are also important. these refer to brightness. The spectrum is also important. Try to get bulbs specifically for plant tanks, flora bulbs or gro-lux would be suggested. There are a myriad of bulbs on the market. Research thoroughly BEFORE you buy.
Google the terms lumens, Kelvins, and spectrum for plant growth. The reply here would be much too long. If you need any more info, please PM me. We'll work out something that can be posted for others.
