In a big lot of fish tanks and equipment I just bought, I got a huge submersible water pump/powerhead. It's some strange brand I've never heard of - ViaAqua. The manual was less than satisfying, but the pump seems to work great. It has a flow rate of 500 gph, but so far as I can tell there's no way to adjust the flow rate.
Also in the lot I got this Lee's Triple Flow internal filter. You're supposed to fill it with filter floss or other media and put an airstone in it. It says it has a flow rate of 100 gph.
So....if I hooked this huge pump up to this box filter full of filter floss and blasted water through it, would this be a worthwhile filter? Also, would it destroy the pump by trying to push too much water through a slow box, or is the 100 gph rating on the box filter just the flow rate you'd get through it with an airstone? I'm not worried about breaking the box filter because they're only a couple of bucks and I've got plenty of sponge filters as it is. I just don't wanna break that big pump.
