The Update after 3 months!

I have platy fry and the have grown fair bit amount and they are still growing. I feed them crumpled flakes. I also bought them a 3 gallon aqarium till they are full grow and i have a 10 gallon already set up for them. And it has been cycling for about 3 months so far. I am cycling it over the summer just to get the water perfect for my babies. When should i seperate them? Like male and female and I still don't really understand the boy's thing. I am getting a bit worried beause they are 3 months old. I think it is about them are ready to be able to have babies? I would never want them to breed thats why. There i one really big one and one pretty small one is that normal? And there is average ones. Should I be worried? Also the 3 gallon i got a really good deal on it for $10 I got and air pump, undergravel filter with air stone, and hood with a light, a heater, gravel, 2 fake plants, 1 ortament, and a 3 gallon aqarium. Also my friend is giving my a 40 gallon aqaurium soon! So please help and ANSWER MY QUESTIONS please.

Love,
Paws

well it sounds like you have a nice 10 gallon for them. i would start to seperate them soon just to be safe. do you have any idea how to tell males from females?

i dont think it should be too much of a problem that there is a larger one and a smaller one. everyone cant be the same size. but it sounds like you are doing pretty good. how many fry do you have all together?

female's anal fin (back most fin under them) is fanned out, all big and spread out. while the male's anal fin is long and thin....basically a fun version of a penis lol. if you look at it closely it will be more than obvious

I can't tell. Should i take pictures? The littlest one doesn't seem to be forming well. I can see inside it's body and the spine is twisted with up ad downs in it. Also I think the bigger fry have been picking on him/her because i see chunk of fin taken out of his back fin. His spine is almost like it needs more room. The body in length has to grow bigger for the spine to stretch out then everything would be ok. There is 4 in total. The birth was by accident when i bought a pregnat mother fom te pet store. I didn't know she was pregnat too. So..... Can someone hw me pictures of this anal fin please?

it doesnt sound like your littlest one has a great chance :( but you never know.

below are some pics showing the difference between male and female platies.

Thank you so very muc i will be seperating them in 1 week. (Why 1 week is because I need to get back home and i now know the genders! Thank you.

At three months i think they should all be females still. my swordtail was pretty easy to spot when he changed from female to, as he was quite big at the time. Even after the change it still takes them a while until they are sexually mature, as i kept him with females, and none became pregnant.
Good luck with them :D
