help with cat please!!!
 

my cat has a patch of hair loss on the side of her neck. it started like nickle sized but is now like 3 square inches. the skin is red, and bleeding because i believe she is just over grooming the cut or something. what can i do to help without taking her to the vet? Is neosporin bad?

My cat has like kitty allergies, or dry skin (Or she is crazy) But every once in a while she scratches the back of her neck until it bleeds :( Stupid old fart, my dad wanted to put her down one time, but I wouldn't allow that.

But when we notice she is scratching, we slap a cone on her. She HATES it but its better then her mutilating herself. Not sure where you get one. Lol prolly the vets, but it's not like you would have to pay to see the vet or anything. Just see if they sell them.

I wouldn't put neosporin or anything like that on it. It will heal fine without it as long as she leaves it alone.

i read where this vet was answering peoples questions and he said if a cat has a scratch that dosent require vet attention you can use peroxide and neosporine. so i put peroxide (or however u spell it) and i thought about putting a wrap on it but i work at petsmart and we sell those cone things so im going to get one tomorrow so she cant lick it. i hope it works! *fingers crossed*

Fair enough, well good luck! I wouldn't really worry about cleaning the wound unless it looks obviously infected though.

im trying to keep it uninfected though. petsmart is good. im the "pet care specialist" but idk exactly. petsmart is sure a big company ours are sent to us from the petsmart fish distribution center... idk if they are bred there for us or they buy them and send them there and then to us or what

...You put hydrogen peroxide on an open wound on a cat? You, sir, are a braver man than I. You'd have to put me in a suit of armor before I'd do that.

If it's something like ring worm or mange, you'd want to take her to a vet- that can spread to you and other pets and is wayy not good. Even it it's just a hot-spot, she'd need medication

I'm assuming you do but I figured I'd ask anyways: You keep flea meds on her, right? I've seen barn cats get wounds like that from being bit.

yeah i do, but m pretty sure thats what its from anyways...

even using a cone or peroxide/neosporin, you are only treating symptoms. the animal should be checked by a vet. its easy to assume that it just hurt itself while it was scratching, but this is not often enough the case.

but...to answer your question. neosporin is safe for cats AND dogs. we have used it on our own for years. (we have a male cat who gets into fights sometimes) 8)
