Dwarf honey gourami and betta Will a Dwarf honey gourami and a Betta do fine together? I have no intention of housing them, this is purely for curiousity sake. |
Probably not, depending on tank size. |
I'm with Pasfur...they're both territorial fish (even with dwarfs being more peaceful than others), and I can only see it ending up with one or the other being hurt or killed. |
Well, are you thinking of a male or female betta? I keep a female betta with two male honey gourami and they do just fine. On the other hand, the tank is 6ft long and heavily planted, including floating plants, so they have a lot of space to do their own thing. But, it has been done successfully! |
I tried it once. I put my male crowntail in my community tank (which housed two male dwarf gouramis at the time) and it didn't go too well. The gouramis chased the betta around the tank. The betta's extensive finnage made him a weaker swimmer, and he didn't like the increased current. Had I left him in there for more than the 20 or so seconds he was in the tank, the gouramis would have probably caught him and might have done some damage. |

The Honey Dwarf Gourami or Honey Sunset Gourami, I've read, is a much more peaceful docile fish that's only territorial when spawning. |
I attempted to house a crowntail male with a dwarf powder blue and a dwarf flame gourami (both male). This was in a 20 gallon with no other fish and plenty of hiding areas for them (fake plants and decor/caves), and the betta had been living in the tank for about 2 weeks prior to adding the gouramis. At first, he betta was doing a lot of flaring, showing off, and the gouramis just ignored him. When he saw he wasn't getting any attention, he got a little de-spirited and went and sulked for a bit. However, about an hour or so later, he came around for round two and started terrorizing the powder blue gourami, and the first time he fin bit him, he was promptly removed and put into his own tank. |
I had two dwarf powder blue gouramis a while back, they were raging jerk offs to everything else i put in the tank. if they were alone in the tank they were jerks to each other. I didnt keep them long. If I got them again they would be going in their own tank. |

My flame gourami is the peaceful one in my tank, though he does get pretty defensive of "his" piece of zucchini. :-D |
