Betta needs a friend!
I have a 12-gallon Aquapod with one male betta and three panda cories (I think one female and two males). Since the pandas are bottom feeders, they don't pay too much attention to the betta. What's the best non-schooling middle-swimmer that is 3 inches or smaller to keep my betta company?
Female bettas? http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/froehlich/s020.gif
Females wont work.
Why do want to something to get in the bettas swimming space? I would definatley focus more on bottom-dwellers. I would get at least 3 more cories, as they like gropus of 6+.
bettas can go with other fish that dont have big flashy fins, live in the same water quality (like same temp, and parameters) or dont show agression like fin nipping
how aoout tetras? they are not bottom or top swimmers and they dont get big at all. but you would have to have them in a group though (3 at least)
Do Not put a male in with a female, both are can be sensitive about teritory and kill each other. Only do this if you are a breeder and you know what your doing.
you should also get a couple more corries. they thrive better in big groups
Why in the world would females not work? Of course they work...
You do not mix males and females at all. Males become violent especially when females refuse to spawn. That is the point why you cannot mix both sexes at all. Keep the male in his bachelor pad.:wink2:
That is certainly true if you keep one male with one female. But if there is more than one female there shouldn't be any problems, provided there are enough hiding places. I have kept betta this way and never had any problems. (Admittedly, mine were no highly bred varieties; maybe the ones available in fish stores have different behavioral patterns.)
I've heard that male bettas will be too aggressive with females if there aren't enough, and my tank doesn't have enough room for more than three more females. So bettas are out of the question for me.
Are platies or mollies friendly? Or do they at least have some personality?
