A Few Questions
I'm the bothersome newbie with a million questions. Some day I'll be able to answer them too, I swear. =P
What would be a good heater for a 5.5 gallon aquarium?
Also, is there anyone here who orders their aquarium supplies online? Are the prices better? What online suppliers do you trust?
Thanks again, everyone.
You'll want a smaller heater for that tank. Hydor makes a good one. Online is generally cheaper, although you have to pay for shipping, so it's often not worth it for just one $10 item.
Here's a list of online vendors that one of our members started:
I use a 50 watt heater on my 5.5 gallon. It works just fine although it takes a little more work to keep the temp. stable in a small tank. I order most all of my supplies from Drs. Foster and Smith. You can call by phone or order online. The website is www.drsfostersmith.com. Good luck.
Ya, you don't wanna go too overboard on the wattage. It will certainly have no trouble keeping the tank warm but an oversized heater will have trouble keeping things steady because of how fast it can heat things up.
Unless the room where you'll keep the tank gets absolutely frigid, and then you shouldn't be keeping the tank in there anyways, a 25W heater should be more than enough.
I like the Visi-therm stealth's myself and they make a 25W model.
