What sort of rocks are you looking for? I've been wanting to order from these guys:

Yikes! I can't imagine ordering rocks online. If you're looking for really interesting holey rocks like that or the other more interesting looking rocks, I suggest finding a good LFS with a decent rock selection.

If you're looking for more common rock varieties like slate or shale to build big features with, I strongly suggest just going to a landscaping store. My LFS sells red shale and slate for $2 a pound, but if you drive a couple blocks further the landscaping store sells the exact same rocks for $0.14 a pound. They have a much bigger selection, too, allowing you to buy exactly what you want.

Yeah, hate to say it but if you're doing freshwater buying substrate (except for the plant substrates) and rocks from your LFS or chain store is a good way to waste a lot of money. A 20 lb. bag of gravel costs about $14 from my local Petsmart and $20 from my LFS. I can get a 50 lb. bag of the exact same gravel from my local Lowes for $4. About the same thing when it comes to rocks and such.

Lace Rock, Available at most LFS for a premium, can also be purchased from most landscaping supply stores very inexpensively. To see lace rock used in an African Cichlid tank, check the link in my signature.

thanks a lot for the response guys.. appreciated it very much.. the purpose of the rock is for the cichlids to hide or whatever.. this is my first time as the owner of cichlids..

the more the rocks for them to hide, the better? is that right?
